Tennis Sydney is proud to announce that entries for the prestigious 2011 Mardi Gras Championships are now open.
This event is always a popular tournament and 2011 promises to be a spectacular event packed with fun activities, entertainment and great tennis.
All tennis players (and their family and friends) are encouraged to participate in this competitive, social and fun tournament.
In 2011, the Tennis Sydney Mardi Gras Championships will be held on:
- Friday night, 25 February (6.30pm - 11pm)
- Saturday, 26 February (12.00pm - 7.30) and
- Sunday, 27 February (9.00am - 7.30pm)
The Mardi Gras Championships is part of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival. It is also part of the GLTA world tour ( see www.glta.net) with many overseas players showing interest in the 2011 tournament.
The tournament is open to anyone who wishes to particpate and comprises of graded singles and doubles events (grades include Open, A, B, C, D, Womens Doubles, 40 plus Doubles, and Mixed Doubles). Tournament formats include knockout competition for each graded singles event and round robin competition for each graded doubles event, although these formats may change depending on the number of entries received.
Players can play in a maximum of 2 events and can only play graded singles and one graded doubles event.
Trophies are awarded to the winners and runners-up in each grade.
There is a $30 registration fee if you are not a member of Tennis Sydney or for $50 you can become a Tennis Sydney member. Membership entitles you to free registrations to all other tournaments held within a year of your membership as well as other benefits. Concessions apply as the tournament aims to be accessable to all players who wish to compete ( please contact us for details).
There is a fun filled "Mardi Gras Dinner" being planned for the Saturday night at a venue close to the courts. This is a great opportunity for players to catch up on the days play, meet new friends and make visiting players feel welcome. More details about the dinner will be released shortly.
