World Sports Awards Nominees

The World No. 1 Novak Djokovic and 2011 Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova have been nominated for the 2012 Laureus World Sports Awards. 

The World No. 1 Novak Djokovic has had an amazing year with a 70-5 win-loss record and 10 ATP Tour titles including the Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open. Djokovic has been nominated for World Sportsman of the Year for 2011.

 

 

The World No. 2 Petra Kvitova has been nominated for the World Sportswoman of the Year. The 21-year-old Petra Kvitova has played a remarkable season and clinched five WTA Tour championships including the Grand Slam title at Wimbledon. Kvitova prevailed over former World No. 1 Maria Sharapova in straight sets, 6–3, 6–4 in the final.

Kvitova, along with Li Na of China, has also been nominated for Breakthrough Sportsperson of the Year.

The awards will be announced in London on Monday 6 February 2012. Proceeds from the Laureus World Sports Awards directly benefit and underpin the work of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation which supports almost 80 community projects around the world which have helped to improve the lives of more than one million young people through the use of sport.
