To launch the Tennis Sydney 2012 season and to celebrate the partnership with mpV we will be hosting a drinks afternoon at the mpV on Saturday 11 February from 4.30pm – 7.00pm. 

During the function we will be:

• Releasing the Tennis Sydney Calendar for 2012 with the planned tournaments and events for the year including a new Doubles Day at an exciting new venue

Entries for Mardi Gras Championships have now closed.

Entries will be finalised over the next day or two and the draw and schedule made public on Saturday afternoon 11th February at Tennis Sydney 2012 season launch get together at Moore Park View Hotel. (mpV)

 Last Sunday, in extremely hot conditions, Tennis Sydney Members enjoyed a terrific VicTennis MidSumma Tournament and went the distance to bring back several trophies and a lot of great memories. We would like to thank VicTennis for a fantastic tournament, the friendly atmosphere, the competition and most of all the welcome they gave us. It’s good to have a social and competitive interaction between the clubs

 On the eve of the 2012 Australian Open we salute the man after whom the Centre Court at Melbourne Park is named and who many regard as possibly the greatest tennis player of all time: Rod Laver.

Rod “Rocket” Laver was born 9 August 1938 in Rockhampton, Queensland and left school at an early age to pursue his tennis career. Laver was the U.S. and Australian junior champion in 1957. He had his breakthrough on the world stage in 1959, when he reached all three finals at Wimbledon, winning the mixed doubles title with Darlene Hard.

He is the winner of two Grand Slams; one Pro Slam and at least 199 tournaments.
