Peter Deacon

Peter commenced on the Committee around 1994 and quickly took an active interest in making Tennis Sydney a real working sports club for its members.

Peter became Secretary in 1995 and he was responsible for starting and developing the Spring tournament held around September of that year with the first few being held at the Sydney Tennis Academy in Oxford Falls in the northern suburbs of Sydney.

Peter also organised the tennis weekends in Bowral in 1996 and 1997 which also included the Canberra tennis players. As a separate event for 2 years Peter organised a competition against the Canberra players which was held at the Institute of Sport in Canberra.

Peter was also instrumental in the success of the two Tennis Sydney floats in 1996 and 1997.

Carl Copas

Carl started working with the Committee in 1994 and continued in an active role until becoming President in 1996 before stepping down in 1998. During this time he hosted fundraisers at Moore Park Bowling Club, hosted the Tennis Sydney Trivia night, and helped organise trips away to Bowral in 1995 and 1996.  Carl was also a very enthusiastic participant in the Tennis Sydney floats for the 1996 and 1997 Mardi Gras Parades.

Carl was elected President again in 2002 and I know it was a huge thrill for him to present many medals at the 2002 Gay Games. Carl stood down as President and from the Committee in 2004, however still continues to contribute to Tennis Sydney.

On a personal note, Carl was the first person I met when I came to Sunday Social and has been a constant source of support to me as the current President of the club.

To some he is known as Lea Pericoli, however to me it will always be Margaret Osborne Dupont.

It is my pleasure to induct into the Tennis Sydney Hall of Fame, Carl Copas.

Norm Lawrence

Norm has been a member of Tennis Sydney since 1992 and served on the committee from 1994-1998 and from 2001-2004, and in particular as Secretary from 1996-1998 and again from 2002 - 2004.

In this time Norm worked tirelessly to ensure that minutes were taken and agendas prepared and that Tennis Sydney was meeting it's legal obligations.

On behalf of your fellow Tennis Sydney Members, I would like to say congratulations Norm on your induction to the Tennis Sydney Hall of Fame.

Craig Hunt

Craig Hunt is the founder of the extremely successful Virgina Slims Competition. These mid-week seasonal competitions are the staple events of Tennis Sydney.

Craig moved to Sydney in 1995 and decided to start up a night competition, canvassing 8 players for the initial tour. Owen Gallagher got wind of the idea and decided to organise another 8 players and so the Virginia Slims Thursday night competition was born, with 16 players.

At that stage the competitions were run independently of Tennis Sydney by Craig. However, it quickly became a popular event and soon after the President of Tennis Sydney at the time, Peter Deacon, suggested to Craig that he come onto the committee and run it under the auspices of Tennis Sydney. And so it became a formal Tennis Sydney event which continued to grow in numbers with some competitions hosting more than 80 players.

Craig continued to run the night competition for 10 years before deciding to take a break, whereupon he handed over reigns to Brendan Moore, who then took over the role with aplomb.

Craig was inducted into the Tennis Sydney Hall of Fame in 2002.

Edwin Christiansen

Ed began his tennis career on the asphalt playgrounds of a catholic school.  Ed’s role models were the normal gay icons of his day such as Bea Smith from Prisoner and Alexis Colby from Dynasty. He would slip into either personality on the tennis court and either threaten them with a hot iron, or banish people for bad etiquette.

Ed is single-minded and committed to everything he undertakes, serving as a committee member of Tennis Sydney from 1998 to 2006.  Edwin was President between 1999-2002.  Edwin's great gift to the club given was his enthusiasm and love for tennis where he saw his role as ambassador for the club - with Edwin’s trademark welcome to Sunday Tennis his specialty.

In his time as President, he was instrumental in the continued organising of trivia nights, acted as Division Captain for the Slims Tour for many years, wrote and designed a professional look for our tournament entry forms.  He was a key instigator of the Tennis Sydney website under the able artistic and technical direction of Andrew Medhurst.

Edwin, or the ever endearing Rosie Casals, has been the successful victor of many Mardi Gras, Peter Deacon and Thursday night competitions as well as claiming the gold medal with Anton Enus at the 2002 Gay Games.

Edwin was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2006 by Andrew Medhurst
