WELCOME TO TENNIS SYDNEY

Tennis Sydney is an incorporated, non-profit organisation that aims to promote and facilitate gay and lesbian tennis in Sydney.   We run both social and competition tennis, catering to a broad player group with a wide range of skill levels, from beginner to advanced. Each year, Tennis Sydney hosts two main tournaments: the Mardi Gras Championships, occurring at the end of February, and the Peter Deacon Spring Tournament, occurring early October.   We also host mid-week night competitions which run for 8-11 week blocks throughout the year, catering to all grades. New players are always welcome.

It is with great pleasure we announce a sponsorship partnership between Tennis Sydney and the Moore Park View Hotel (mpV).

Under the partnership, the mpV has agreed to sponsor Tennis Sydney so we can continue to offer the existing events and services to our Members; build on the initiatives we've taken over the last two years; and to start introducing new services, opportunities and events to Tennis Sydney Members and supporters.

To launch the Tennis Sydney 2012 season and to celebrate the partnership with mpV we will be hosting a drinks afternoon at the mpV on Saturday 11 February from 4.30pm – 7.00pm. 

During the function we will be:

• Releasing the Tennis Sydney Calendar for 2012 with the planned tournaments and events for the year including a new Doubles Day at an exciting new venue.

Entries for Mardi Gras Championships have now closed.

Entries will be finalised over the next day or two and the draw and schedule made public on Saturday afternoon 11th February at Tennis Sydney 2012 season launch get together at Moore Park View Hotel. (mpV)

 Last Sunday, in extremely hot conditions, Tennis Sydney Members enjoyed a terrific VicTennis MidSumma Tournament and went the distance to bring back several trophies and a lot of great memories. We would like to thank VicTennis for a fantastic tournament, the friendly atmosphere, the competition and most of all the welcome they gave us. It’s good to have a social and competitive interaction between the clubs

Happy New Year! Are you ready for the Tennis Sydney Summer 2012 competition? It's ready for you!

Entries are now open and we have a revised format we hope you will enjoy. Firstly we return to the usual "choose your own partner" format. When you enter on line you will only enter for yourself, but you will need to indicate your partner's name.

No doubt you are all following the Australian Open religiously! Hopefully the amazing tennis on TV has inspired some of you to get out there and play some challenge matches. For example,

Novak Djokovic and Petra Kvitova have firmed as  favourites with Tennis Sydney punters to take the titles at the Australian Open. $125.00 will go to the winner or be split between the winners if the magic pick of both the men's and women's champion go their way.  Thank you to all who entered.  Sit back now and enjoy two weeks of Grand Slam tennis and watch your fortunes rise.... or fall.

It's time to let loose and party with fellow Mardi Gras players from our club, overseas and interstate.

 On the eve of the 2012 Australian Open we salute the man after whom the Centre Court at Melbourne Park is named and who many regard as possibly the greatest tennis player of all time: Rod Laver.

Rod “Rocket” Laver was born 9 August 1938 in Rockhampton, Queensland and left school at an early age to pursue his tennis career. Laver was the U.S. and Australian junior champion in 1957. He had his breakthrough on the world stage in 1959, when he reached all three finals at Wimbledon, winning the mixed doubles title with Darlene Hard.

He is the winner of two Grand Slams; one Pro Slam and at least 199 tournaments.
